Gala do Bem exceeds fundraising goal
The 2023 Gala do Bem, held by Pequeno Príncipe Hospital, at the beginning of October, in Curitiba, exceeded its fundraising goal, reaching the mark of US$ 270,800.00 donated towards research and care for children and adolescents who are fighting childhood cancer, or who require a bone marrow transplantation (BMT). The support of each one of you is essential so that together we can offer this chance of life to all children,” highlighted the Hospital’s executive director, Ety Cristina Forte Carneiro, in her speech. - Pequeno Príncipe offers exams that improve the diagnosis of neuromuscular diseases: The Neuromuscular Diagnostic Laboratory is already operating. Implemented with the support of companies that donated through Income Tax waiver, the project is made possible by the National Program to Support Healthcare for People with Disabilities (Pronas/MS, in Portuguese). It will be offered free muscle biopsies with immunohistochemistry until April 2024, for example.
- Change to the ECA strengthens protection for children and adolescence in Brazil: In October, Law No. 14,692 was sanctioned, what amended article 260 of the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA, abbreviation in Portuguese), enabling donors who support children’s causes through child and adolescent rights funds to address their donations to specific projects of the organizations, such as Pequeno Príncipe. The Hospital participated in this movement to advance legislation, together with other players.
- Scientists from Pequeno Príncipe stand out in major universities around the world: At the Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Research Institute, 17 coordinating scientists and several other researchers carry out their studies, whether in scientific initiation, master’s degree, doctorate, or post-doctorate. And many have won scholarships at renowned universities, in highly contested selection processes. Thus, teams strengthen relationships with highly relevant organizations, including international ones.
